Pilot Workshop · Muizenberg, Cape Town

The AIMS Pilot Workshop
This workshop is an internal dry run of the lecturer training workshops at AIMS South Africa, as part of the AI Research Foundations for Higher Education programme.
Building on a month of virtual pre-work through the AI Research Foundations curriculum from Google DeepMind, attendees spend five days in person at AIMS South Africa deepening their knowledge of cutting-edge AI and practising teaching craft. Their feedback shapes the workshop before it rolls out to 30 universities across Africa through 2028.
Four reasons this week is worth your time, whether you teach, research, or are just getting started.
Build a strong foundation in machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and large language models through lectures and hands-on labs.
Develop practical teaching and facilitation skills, and practise explaining technical concepts through peer teaching and structured feedback.
Contextualise course materials for different student backgrounds and local African contexts, and improve the workshop for future cohorts.
Collaborate with peers across the AIMS South Africa AI community and build a network that supports your teaching beyond the workshop.
